Read 2nd Corinthians 11:18-30, Psalm 34 and Matthew 6:19-23

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19)

I once heard a very funny story. A man was walking past a bank where he had deposited all his money all through his life. He believed so much in the security of the bank. As he walked by, he noticed there was a long queue in front of the bank, a lot of youths were withdrawing money from the ATM Gallery.

As he watched them, he became furious, he brought out his ATM card and joined the queue. After withdrawing all he had he did not have much, he took the money and went inside the bank and shouted: “Please I came to deposit my money so you can lock it up before those rascals take everything with ATM machine outside.”

We may want to call this man a “foolish” man but the truth is that we are all like this man. We build houses with tall fences and electric barb wires, we install CCTV cameras, we buy bulletproof cars, we hire soldiers to follow us, we do all these and yet we still can’t sleep peacefully at night. We are constantly worried about who is going to try to steal from us or how are should further protect ourselves.

The truth is that if we really wants our goods secure, then we must store them in heaven where thieves and robbers cannot break in and steal. How do we do this? By giving things away, by helping the poor and the needy around us.

If you decide to take just one child from the street, feed him/her, educate him/her and give him/her a chance to become someone in life, you have taken that money to heaven. You will might not benefit directly from this child but whatever you spend on him/her will never be forgotten by God.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, help me to worship you with what I have. Amen.

Be Happy. Live Positive. Have Faith. It is well with you. God bless you. (Friday of week 11 in Ordinary Time. Bible Study: 2nd Corinthians 11:18-30, Psalm 34 and Matthew 6:19-23).
