In today’s first reading, Moses said: “Give heed to the statutes and the ordinances… that you may live and take possession of the land.” God means well to us by giving us the commandments. There is a reward for every act of obedience. Unfortunately, today’s Christians are more concerned about their discomfort than their disobedience

If we call ourselves Christians, our lives ought to shine like bright stars in the world; that is, there has to be a difference in our pattern of life. However, many Christians only pretend to be in the light while full of darkness inside. By our actions (especially those done under the cover of darkness or in secret), we reject Christ, thereby behaving as anti-Christ.

As people drew near to John the Baptist, the religious leaders of the day arrived. John the Baptist called them a brood of vipers! Jesus later explained this further when he said: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which on the outside look beautiful, but inside they are full of the bones of the dead and of all kinds of filth.” (Matthew 23:27)
