David did not go to sleep hoping that with the anointing he received, everything would just magically fall into place. Anointing without sweat only amounts to failure. As the saying goes: “Pray as if everything depends on God but Work as if everything depends on you.”

As long we allow Jesus to reign in our hearts and minds, poverty, captivity, blindness, oppression will have no place in our lives.

What is your attitude to your enemies? Do you have a passion for their repentance and salvation? Or do you simply wish they would die and leave you in peace?

Perhaps by putting Saul into David’s hands, God was also putting David to the test to see his reaction. If you treat your enemies the same way they treat you, what makes you different from them?

Father Tansi used to say, “If you are going to be a Christian at all, you might as well live entirely for God” in other words: “it is better not to be a Christian at all than to be an average Christian.”

When next you are faced with adversity, take it as a challenge to deepen your spiritual life, awaken your faith, become more grateful, count your blessings, appreciate God for what He has done in the past, and to increase your faith in Him.

Am I more concerned about what people will say about me than what God will say about me? Am I like Saul seeking the praise and admiration of others rather than the glory of God?

Let us resolve this week to be new in thoughts, new in words, and new in actions. Let us strive to put sin aside, trust God more by obeying his voice to the latter and rise above human pressure. Let us move away from being people-pleasers to God-pleasers.

In the wedding feast at Cana, Jesus revealed his true identity as God who has power over the whole of creation. By agreeing to turn water into wine at a wedding, Jesus, who (during His temptations), refused to turn stones to bread teaches us the importance of marriage, his love for us as our Groom, and his respect for Mary his Mother. Jesus gave the couple the gift of a miracle teaching us to generously offer ourselves as gifts to others.

The fact that one is anointed, chosen, ordained, or consecrated or has received the sacraments does not remove a person’s habits, thoughts, desires, and sinful inclinations.

Physical healing is always a consequence of spiritual healing; healing from within. Sin is a wound that must be treated first so as to allow physical healing to take place.

Prayer is not magic, learn to give God the glory He deserves. Let it not be that you only remember God when you need something from Him. Worship God in season and out of season, do not make the mistake of Hophni and Phineas.
